Inauguration of Public Solar Lighting System in Panchayath Union Primary School, THAAZHAKKIDAI, SIRUMALAI, DINDIGUL DISTRICT PSLS PROJECT P-11 11th APRIL, 2016
DIVYA PRERNA FOUNDATION is a Public Charitable Trust, based in Chennai, established on the 15th July 2011. DPF attempts to promote - sustainable & right living, in harmony with nature, along with the enrichment of the body, mind & intellect, helping to seek spiritual enlightenment by Divine Inspiration.
As a part of our Mission for Sustainable Living, we set-up & promote Solar Lighting Systems in Public Access locations, to demonstrate & promote the use of renewable energy systems.
DPF is proud to Inaugurate its 11th Project today, in the Primary School in the Tribal Village called “Thaazhakkidai” in SIRUMALAI taluk of DINDIGUL district of TAMILNADU.
Thaazhakkidai village is on the Sirumalai Hills, and this tribal village, reachable after a long drive on the mountain of about 25kms, is one of the unfortunate villages, which have not been electrified in the past about 7 decades of Independent India!
The HM of thePanchayathUnionPrimary Schoolhave been requesting DPF to provide Solar Lighting System to the school, to motivate the village children to attend the school & study at nights as well. This request was accepted by DPF and SELCO team was requested to visit the school & prepare a plan.
Mr Nambirajan , Senior Manager, SELCO, Maduraivisited the site with his team & prepared a plan, and sent it along with photos of the School & the surroundings. This was discussed by DPF and after suitable modifications, and financial estimates, approved for execution. The orders were placed on 26th Feb 2016, and the system was installed by 19th march. HM of the school, obtained the required permission from the DPEO of Tamilnadu Government Education Department by 23 March 2016. The School desired to have a formal Inauguration on the 11th of April.
DPF Managing Trustee V.ParthaSarathy & Nirupama Sarathy, representing the Trustees, attended the function, at the Invitation of the School Authorities. The Solar system suppliers & installers SELCO SOLAR, was represented by Mr Nambi Rajan. Many parents of the students & village elders attended the function.

The HM of the school welcomed all in the audience. Nambi Rajan of SELCO SOLAR explained the features of the Solar Lighting System, and demonstrated the charging arrangement for the Portable Solar Lanterns.
V.ParthaSarathy, Managing Trustee, DPF, explained the origin & theMissionactivities of the Trust, and presented to the School staff & HM the Brochures & Books published by the Foundation. He requested the students, the staff, and the villagers to take good care of the Solar System & the Portable Lanterns.
8 portable solar lanterns were presented by DPF to selected students. These can be charged in the School Solar System Charging Panel every day, and when taken home can provide lighting for about 5 hours at home to help them study. As the village is not electrified, this facility was very much welcomed by the parents. The powerful Outdoor Luminaries of 7.2W provided on both the sides of the school illuminates the whole area around the School, and could serve as the meeting place of the community & for the childrenn to read / play at night!
The villagers who spoke on the occasion, thanked DPF profusely, and stated that after nearly 7 decades after Independence, infrastructure development like road connectivity are being provided only now by the State Government, and this Solar Lighting System donated by DPF provides Illumination to this village which is one of the still Un-Electrified villages in the state!.
The P.U. Primary School, Thaazhakkkidai village Project PSLS P 11 provides for 3 Solar Modules each of 60Wp, 1x12V Battery of 180AHr capacity, 6 LED Tube lights each of 5W for ID lighting, 2 OD Luminaries each of 7.2W, and 8 Portable Solar Lanterns with associated Charging Panel. The Total Project cost is about Rs75,000.

The function concluded with Vote of Thanks by the Teacher & National Anthem by the Students & all present.
