Press Release Project P-05
Inauguration of Solar Lighting System in Panchayath Union Primary School, KALLAKINARU, KODAIKANAL Hills, DINDIGUL DISTRICT on 19 December 2013
Kallakinaru is a Tribal village, on Kodaikkanal Hills, accessible from Vathala Gundu, and about 40 Kms on the hill, with nearly 3 Kms without a proper road (being laid), requiring trekking in the forest area. K.C.Patty a small town, where Dr Rajkumar, with his wife Dr Mary, has set up his Medical Center serving about 50 villages around, is about 8 Kms away.from Kallakinaru.
Trustees of Divya Prerna Foundation, a Public Charitable Trust based in Chennai, with a Mission of promoting Nature sustainable living, through renewable energy, prompted by Dr Rajkumar, selected this Kallakinaru Tribal Village, which has not been electrified, for installation of Public Solar Lighting System in the Panchayath Union Primary School, based on enthusiastic support extended by the HeadMaster of the school Veeararam Prabhu. The permission from the TN Government Primary education department was also duly obtained for the Project in Nov 2013.
The Solar Lighting Project for the School, was engineered & planned by DPF, after the inspection visit to the village by Nambirajan, Sr Executive of SELCO Solar Light (P) LtdMadurai, heading the TN Operations. DPF placed orders on SELCO SOLAR, BG. providing for 4 DC LED Lamps for the class room area, with 2 sun-sensitive Street Lights to cater to the automatic lighting of the School Courtyard, for the children to assemble & study or play during nights. The well lit courtyard can also function as the Community Center for the villagers in the night.
In addition the Project provided for 10 Portable Solar Lanterns to be donated to the Students, for lighting up their homes in the nights, to enable them to study. The Charging Panel in the School Solar System facilitates charging of these Lanterns during school hours – also ensuring that the children attend school regularly! 2 more Portable Lanterns are meant for the School HM & Teaching Staff.
The Solar Equipments had to be manually carried up to the site, because of the terrain & installation was successfully completed by SELCO, in the First week of December 2013. The Inauguration Function was held on the 19th December 2013, in theMedicalCenter in K.C.Patty, because of unexpected accessibility problems to Kallakinaru village.
