CORD Siruvani Goes Solar 26.Apr.2012
On the 26th April 2012, the Solar lighting System installed in CORD Siruvani office in Thennamanallur (a village about 30Kms from Coimbatore city) was formally inaugurated. The frequent power failures had made it very difficult to run the MedicalCentre, Tuition, Typewriting and Tailoring classes, and, interactions with villagers. Sri V Partha Sarathy, founder of Divya Prerna Foundation, an NPO located in Chennai learnt about this from Poojya Swamini Vimalananda Head of Chinmaya Mission, Coimbatore, and decided to help in a big way. Divya Prerna Foundation planned & sponsored the installation of the necessary Solar Llighting System in CORD office, by their Associates, SELCO Solar Light Ltd, Bangalore.

At the inaugural function, Sri V Partha Sarathy Managing Trustee, DPF, spoke about the aims and activities of Divya Prerna Foundation which was founded on the 15th July 2011. They have been providing solar lights in Public Access locations like schools & temples, and, promoting Nature sustainable living. They are also working on publishing e-booklets on the Eternal Truths, based on divine inspirations of the Great Masters & conducting Science & Health camps for rural youth.
The meeting was organized in CORD Siruvani office. Sri Nikhil Nair and Sri Nambi from SELCO Solar Light, and, Sri S G Subramaniam, Trustee of Divya Prerna Foundation were present. Representative from CIRS, the other Chinmaya Vidyalayas, NGOs, Amruta University, Rotary Club, Thondamuthur, farmers, members of SHG, Mahila Mandals, Youth and students were present. They were told the details of the installation, advantages, maintenance and likely cost of the projects.
It was a very lively and interactive session, with a conducted tour of the Solar Installation., and clarification of the doubts raised by the audience. Two poor students preparing for public exams, and, the Thanthai Periyar Tuition centre, being run by Ms Uma, in Thennamanallur Gandhi Colony were presented one unit each of Re-Chargeable Portable Solar lanterns by the Divya Prerna Foundation.
The complete function was held under the lights of the newly installed Solar System, as there was no TNEB power during the period.
