From Sunlight to Self-Reliance' is a 12-minute journey into the lives of rural, remote and excluded communities whose livelihoods have been strengthened through @DivyaPrernaFoundation’s solar energy initiatives, in partnership with SELCO Solar and SELCO Foundation. What can solar energy do beyond just provide electricity? This film explores four powerful questions: ☀️ How can solar energy transform rural livelihoods? ☀️ How can solar initiatives help remote communities? ☀️ How can pioneering solar projects create new pathways for the underprivileged? ☀️ How can solar energy bring dignity to the marginalised? Through first-hand testimonials from beneficiaries, community members and field-level partners, the film captures the real-world impact of these initiatives. Featured in this film are: 1. For many transgender persons, stigma, discrimination and limited opportunities define their entire lives and make it difficult to secure a stable and decent livelihood. @divyaprernafoundation , in partnership with @selco_india is helping to rewrite the script for this SHG of transgenders in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. Where they were once shunned by society, now these transwomen have a pride of place, running a Solar-powered Juice Shop and e-Seva Centre right inside the Trichy Collectorate premises. Tamil Nadu achieved 100% rural electrification by 1987

On paper, Tamil Nadu achieved 100% rural electrification by 1987 - one of the first states in India to bring electricity to all its inhabited towns and villages. However, even today, there are small interior villages and tribal hamlets that are living in total darkness and where people have to walk or cycle 10-20 kms to access the nearest road. Watch DPF's local partner Mr. R. Raja, Director of @arudecs talk about the challenges faced by such unelectrified tribal and forest-dwelling communities to access education facilities and Government schemes. Many remote villages in hilly terrains in Tamil Nadu still struggle with poor connectivity and erratic electricity and remain in the dark for days and weeks, throwing life and livelihoods off-track. @divyaprernafoundation provides reliable solar energy-based livelihood solutions to these communities, in partnership with @selco_india . Our local partner *Balan, President Village Forest Committee speaks to us from one such village - Puravizhai village in Kanyakumari , Tamil Nadu.
