Inauguration of Public Solar Lighting System in Tribal School, VELLIMALAI

DIVYA PRERNA FOUNDATION is a Public Charitable Trust, based in Chennai, established on the 15th July 2011. DPF attempts to promote - sustainable living, in harmony with nature, along with the enrichment of the body, mind & intellect, helping to seek spiritual enlightenment by Divine Inspiration..

As a part of our Mission for Sustainable Living, we donate & install Solar Lighting Systems in Public Access locations, to demonstrate & promote the use of renewable energy systems.

DPF is proud to Inaugurate its 13th Project today, in The Ekalaiva Model Residential Boys Tribal School, VELLIMALAI, VILLUPURAM District, TamilNadu.

There was a request from the HM of the above School, Mr VelMurugan, in December 2016, to provide Solar Lighting System in their residential Tribal School, to provide stable lighting of the students to study, because of the frequent power failures in this mountain area. On DPF’s request SELCO SOLAR team, under Mr Nambi Rajan, Senior Manager, TN, based in Madurai, visited Vellimalai school & after inspection, prepared a Project Proposal dt 10th Jan 2017 & sent to DPF.

The Proposal was examined by DPF  & modified to include all 6 class rooms of higher classes 10, 11 & 12. The revised Proposal dated 30 Jan 2017, was approved for procurement. DPF also received a letter from Director, Tribal Welfare of the Government of TamilNadu, granting their permission for the Installation in the School. MT, DPF placed order on SELCO on 03 Feb 2017, for Turnkey Supply & Execution of the Solar System, for a total value of Rs 1,11,500.(Rupees One Lakh, Eleven Thousand Five Hundred)

SELCO successfully commissioned the system on 23rd March 2017.

The system consists of 2 Solar Modules – one of (100Wp x 12V) & another of 150Wp, 2 Battery Banks of 100AHr & 150AHr, 2  Charge Regulators (15A/12V) and  total of 14 LED Lights – 6 X 5W LED Tube lights and 8 X 9W tube lights for the classrooms & the corridor.8 Nos of Portable LED Solar Table Lanterns were also ordered for distribution to students for facilitating their movements in the campus at night, as also for study in their hostel rooms.

HM of the School organized a formal Inaugural function for the system on 28thMarch, 2017, in the School, and requested DPF & SELCO to participate. Managing Trustee V.ParthaSarathy, participated  alongwith his wife & daughter as the other Trustees could not attend,.

Mr MuthuKumar, teacher welcomed the guests & the gathering & requested MT, DPF to address the students. Shri ParthaSarathy, MT, DPF, explained the origin & Missions of  DPF, and remarked that this 13th PSLS project is a landmark in DPF’s  Solar Mission, crossing Project cost of Rs 100,000 for the first time, with the lamps being provided in 6 classrooms to benefit all the senior students.

He quoted from “Thirukkural”  & Dr Abdul Kalam, to exhort the students to dream big to achieve great things in their lives. He presented the DPF Publication booklets on “Shrimad Bhagavad Geetha” & “Shirdi SaiBaba” to the Teachers & the Portable Solar Lanterns to selected students.

MT, DPF also, explained the functioning of the Solar System, and demonstrated the features of maintenance of the Solar system & the Portable Solar Table Lamps, as the SELCO representative could not participate due to some contingency.

HM of the School addressed the gathering & thanked DPF for their kind act of donating the Solar Lighting System, which will be a great help to the students.
